Founded in 1976 as Newton Choral Society, in our fortieth season we’ve changed our name to Commonwealth Chorale to better reflect our growth. While we began as a group of mostly Newton residents performing for Newton audiences, today we attract talented singers and large audiences from across Greater Boston.
As Commonwealth Chorale we now bring an additional exciting focus: highlighting the music of Massachusetts composers. In our first year under our new name we are pleased to share two concerts featuring full-length works by contemporary composers from the Boston area.
David Carrier, a gifted organist, orchestral conductor and choral director, has guided NCS and now Commonwealth Chorale to its position as one of Boston’s premier metropolitan choral groups. This season marks his 36th anniversary.
