ABOUT THE CONCERT
Classical or bluegrass? In our second concert of the season, no need to choose. Composer Carol Barnett has combined two styles in her unique bluegrass Mass, The World Beloved. In her unusual approach Barnett has written what she calls her “cheery sacred music,” blending the usual solemnity of a Mass with down-home energy and invigorating rhythms of bluegrass. The performance will be accompanied by the renowned bluegrass band, Monroe Crossing.
In addition, the Chorale will perform a selection of Commonwealth Composer Kevin Siegfried’s acclaimed arrangements of Shaker songs. This program also features Monroe Crossing performing a set of their “electrifying blend of classic bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and original bluegrass”.
